To assist in the management of a team of engineers through the supply chain, providing specialist technical and investigation expertise in support of projects, products and plant operations
To offer mechanical support to all projects from conception through to hand over, including onsite installation and commissioning
The post holder will be a member of the Engineering Function and will be allocated to the Services & Instruments division, reporting to the Senior Design Engineer
Main responsibilities
- To assist with the management of supply chain engineers (mechanical) to provide specialist technical and investigation expertise in support of projects and plant operations
- Progressing of product specification, design, and manufacture through liaison with project teams, and technical leadership of sub-contractor design teams
- Primary interface between technical teams and the supply chain with regard to all design issues
- Responsible for the production the mechanical sections of design and manufacturing specifications to meet the quality and safety requirements of VT Nuclear Services and their customers
- Issue of appropriate design requirement specifications to design and build subcontractors
- Responsible for ensuring all mechanical requirements have been appropriately translated into design specs
- Responsible for ensuring design and regulatory compliance is maintained by suppliers throughout the project life-cycle
- Have an active role in engineering design and safety reviews
- Provide technical assessment of tender returns
- Input into the bid teams as required. (Engineering methods and costs. Identification of applicable statutory directives and their impact on the proposed solution)
- Manage the supply chain to ensure timely delivery of the required quality of engineering design or production
- Support all projects from conception through to hand over, including installation and commissioning
- Actively involved in continuous improvement initiatives
- Able to adhere to all legislative, regulatory, company procedures and standards as appropriate
Qualifications and Experience
- Graduate with a minimum 2 years post degree qualification experience covering a range of engineering/technical topics
- Although not essential, you should ideally have served an appropriate ‘time served’ apprenticeship with an additional 2 years experience of the nuclear industry. Experience of working in radiological controlled areas would be an advantage
- Mechanical Engineering HND/HNC minimum, degree preferred. Working towards membership of appropriate Engineering Institution preferred
Role Specific Attributes
- A background in the design, including front end conceptual design and detail design, installation and commissioning of electro / mechanical equipment.
- Competent in the use of MS Office, 2D and/or 3D CAD
- The role will include travel within the UK, Europe and possibly further afield.
