About Us
VT Nuclear Services is a major provider of critically important technical and engineering services to the nuclear, defence / homeland security and environmental markets both in the UK and internationally. Our legacy is built on over 40 years of nuclear expertise and project delivery experience, gained from the early days of the UKAEA, through the formation of BNFL and the operations of British Nuclear Group Project Services and BIL Solutions.
Part of a highly successful international engineering group
We are part of the VT Group, an international major defence and critical engineering based support services company which employs more than 14,000 people and operates from various locations in the UK, USA and Middle East. VT Group had a turnover of just over £1 billion, with a Group underlying profit before tax of £74.2 million, for the financial year 2006/7.

International expertise
Employing over 600 people we are actively working on major projects all over Europe and further afield. We are also growing our existing markets together with applying our skills and expertise in new markets such as the UK's plan to build new nuclear power stations.
We are proud of our nuclear legacy and our ability to deploy some of the best qualified and experienced people in the industry, all of whom have unrivalled experience working on nuclear licensed sites in the UK, USA, Japan and Europe. Our people have gained extensive experience working for customers at locations including Sellafield, UK Magnox Reactor Sites, UKAEA Dounreay, AWE Aldermaston and sites across Central and Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union. This experience means that our captured knowledge base results in saving time and money when devising strategic and detailed solutions for our customers.
Our principal areas of business are:
- Multi-discipline engineering design and management of major nuclear decommissioning and clean-up projects both in the UK and at major overseas nuclear facilities
- New build of nuclear power stations – we use our expertise, experience and knowledge to help nuclear vendors understand UK and international regulatory requirements, manage waste, design for decommissioning and quantify decommissioning liabilities
- Environmental and Waste Management Services that provide specialist radiological and analytical consultancy associated with the identification and removal of environmental problems as a result of nuclear waste
- Our environmental laboratories are one of the UK’s largest purpose built laboratories with world-class analytical capability housed in a purpose built facility covering over 4,000 sq m. Using cutting edge technology and measuring equipment, our highly specialised team provide advanced techniques to analyse a range of sample types to detect a variety of trace metals, anions and radioactive isotopes
- Through our specialist radiometric instrumentation and services business (formerly BIL Solutions), we specialise in the provision of integrated cutting-edge radiological detection and measurement solutions for the nuclear, civil instrumentation and security markets both in the UK and overseas. Our services include the supply, configuration, calibration, maintenance and repair of advanced radiometric instruments and personal dosimetry.
